Tom grew up listening to a diverse range of music, from blues, soul & reggae through to classical, funk & jazz. This was thanks to his mother’s love of music and her job in the industry as one of the Beatles secretaries.
His DJ career began in 1989, and in no time Tom was spinning alongside now legendary DJ’s and producers like Todd Terry, Paul Oakenfold, Marshal Jefferson, Norman Jay and Kerri Chandler to name but a few. Tom is without doubt one of the old school pioneers of a genre that has become a vast global industry… HOUSE MUSIC!
Over the past two and a half decades he has played at every significant venue around the globe, from the Ministry of Sound & Pacha, to the legendary S.H.E boat parties in Sydney Australia. Although Tom has always been at the cutting edge of House Music, he tends to shy away from trends and has a reputation for blazing his own trail with a mix of new and exclusive music as well as classics and hard to find gems pulled from his huge collection of music compiled over the past 30 plus years.
1993 saw Tom honing his production skills in the studio, resulting in his first release ‘The Old Dub Plates EP’, this release gained critical acclaim from many top DJ’s, and was used by Kiss FM as one of their jingles. The release led to Tom being signed to Swing City Records, one of the UK’s most prolific house labels.
His talents as a producer and re-mixer where apparent from the start, with his unique and distinctive productions and superb remixes of huge tracks like ‘Step 2 Me’ by Grant Nelson, on Virgin Records and the Latin smash hit follow up to ‘Cada Vez’ – ‘Aquela Esquina’ by Negrocan, also remixed by John ‘Julius’ Knight and licensed to Universal Music.
Tom’s keen ear for a good track and his knowledge of the industry resulted in his appointment as production manager for Swing City Records from 2000 to 2002.
During his time at Swing City Tom continued to produce and remix tracks for many other well known labels and in 2002 Tom & then business partner Martin Ikin went on to set up their own label… ‘Soul Purpose Records. Soul Purpose quickly established itself as force to be reckoned with gaining support and praise from industry giants including Joey Negro, Sandy Rivera, CJ Macintosh, Grant Nelson and many more. With this success Tom & Martin where invited to PA the label’s 5th release ‘Makin Love’ featuring the vocal talents of Juliet Roberts, in the world famous BBC Radio One Live Lounge!
Having moved on from ‘Soul Purpose Records’ back in 2005/6 Tom has been busy touring, producing and re-mixing. He relocated to Amsterdam in 2010 and is currently in the process of creating his new label due for launch soon!
Keep your eyes & ears peeled – the best is definitely yet to come…
